Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get a ballpark idea/general quote/Price Range for how much solar costs?

Now that you’ve done your research on our site, you should be able to get a general idea of cost, right?

As you may have noticed, Auric is a detail-oriented company. Giving a ballpark quote isn’t wrong per se, but depending on your situation, we could be playing a completely different ball game at the end of the day. We don’t want to set up the wrong expectation, either high or low, so that’s why we custom build every quote we give.

By the way, don’t just use what your neighbor says they spent to gauge cost. Every home has different energy needs and solar potential. Many solar installers have different products and business models. There are lots of questions to ask, and our energy experts are your best source for answers.

We know it’s nerve-wracking to give out your information to a business. We won’t bother you, or waste your time. In fact, we’ll make it worth your while with a free 3D roof analysis that you can keep. If you’ve ever ordered a pizza delivery, you’ve spent all the time it takes to meet with an energy expert by the time it shows up. And you’ll be able to order a lot of pizza with your solar savings.

What happens when I sell my solar panel equipped home?

In addition to powering your home, solar also adds value. If you’re selling your home, work with an environmentally friendly appraiser. Most traditional appraisers don’t appropriately factor in your solar panels. Green appraisers take the solar system into account and give you a more accurate home valuation.

You can demonstrate the value of solar to potential buyers. Consider providing power bills showing the cost difference before and after you added solar. The visual variation in the bills can help prospective buyers understand the value solar added to the home.

Do solar panels require a tracking system to follow the angle of the sun?

Tracking systems are large and incredibly expensive. They typically do not increase efficiency enough to make the added expense worth it.

Do solar panels require maintenance?

Our solar panels have no moving parts, meaning no maintenance is required. Our 10-year support warranty and system monitoring software allows us to identify and fix any issues that may come up.

How is excess energy stored?

Our solar panel systems are grid-tied, meaning they are connected to your conventional electric grid. Net metering allows you to use your utility company to store your energy. Unlike a traditional power meter that spins in one direction, as you produce solar energy, your meter will literally spin backwards. Then, as you use electricity at night, the net meter allows you to pull energy from the grid, so you have power 24-7.

If solar power is likely to continually become more efficient, should I wait to invest in it?

Despite the media hype, solar technology has not changed much from what was being used in the 1960s. Though solar panels are moderately more efficient, they are now more affordable than ever with tax incentives at both the federal and state level. These tax incentives will not be here forever, so invest in solar now.

Will installing solar paneling increase my property tax?

In many states, solar installations are property tax exempt, meaning the resale value of your home is increased without added property tax costs to you.

If the power goes out, will my home still have power?

On the rare occasion that your power goes out, the grid-tied system will be shut off as well. This is because it is a safety hazard to have electricity continually generated while workers may be addressing the power outage nearby. The best solution is to have a generator on hand for these rare occurrences.

Will solar panels be an eyesore on my roof?

The aesthetics of solar panels have changed recently to include black frames and background. Our designers prepare a layout that complements the look of your home and enhances the aesthetic appeal. In fact, many homeowners feel that solar paneling has actually improved the overall look of their home.

Will solar panels cause my roof to deteriorate?

Our solar panels are not attached directly to your roof, but rather are mounted to a railing system. They actually help to protect and preserve the roof from leaks or collapses as our installers employ sealants to help serve as a barrier from the elements.

Will solar power work in cool, cloudy, or foggy climates?

Absolutely. Solar panels will continue to produce energy in cooler or foggier climates and even on overcast days. Read our blog post about how solar handles in the less-sunny months here.

With the cost of solar, will it ever be able to pay for itself?

Yes. According to studies, solar panels actually return two to four times their cost in saved electric bills. By installing solar, you’ll avoid ever-rising power rate increases. With Auric’s incredible financing options, investing in solar energy does not require big up front costs.
