Word of mouth is vital to any business, ours included. Between 35-55% of our business is generated by referrals. But we’re probably not the only organization you hear that from. When it seems like every product or service out there is asking you to send over more business, it can be paralyzing.
That’s why we’re here to help. Here are a few do’s and don’ts for referring friends, family, coworkers, or other acquaintances to Auric.
Don’t worry – you’re not signing someone up for a torture session.
We don’t do high-pressure sales. We don’t harass people. We pride ourselves on being the educators of the industry. Regardless of whether you filled out a form on a generic website, or were referred by your best friend in the world, you’ll get premier treatment. Our energy experts are respectful, knowledgeable, and genuine people. We don’t like working with slimeballs any more than you do.
When was the last time you met with your energy consultant? Do you remember how easy it was? Even if you didn’t get solar, chances are we at least had a good time and you got some good info.
Well, guess what? Thanks to expanded products and services, it’s even easier nowadays for anyone you refer.
Don’t feel like you have to know everything.
Do you remember all the technical specs of the solar equipment we installed? Maybe, maybe not. But that really doesn’t matter. We’re here to provide an experience for our customers. We make that seamless transition from “traditional” rent-check utility power to clean, sustainable, affordable energy.
And, speaking from experience, it feels good. Do you still get that feeling? Don’t you want to share that? Don’t hoard that feeling all to yourself!
We break down the entire process to fit your referral’s situation (with the most up-to-date info on the top-tier equipment available), so don’t feel like you need to be the middleman. Every situation is different, and we’re here to leave everyone better off than we found them.
Do have meaningful conversations.
What’s the last thing you want to be on the receiving end of? A sales pitch. There are plenty of opportunities to get “sold at”. Just turn on the TV or drive past some billboards.
When you want to refer someone, don’t “sell at” them. We don’t do that when we meet with a potential customer. We find out what motivates them. We talk about their lives and their goals for the family home.
We’re not just going to talk about the weather – “Nice sunny day, huh? Hey, speaking of the sun, how about buying those panels?” – we’re going to talk about real needs and wants. Solar is just one solution that we can provide.
Don’t know how to start the conversation? Here’s a hint: most people want to save the planet or save some money. If it’s one or the other, they’ll let you know. If it’s both, what are you waiting for? Refer them already!
Do have faith that we’ll take care of them.
Our energy experts are people too. In fact, a lot of our employees are also customers of Auric. And plenty of our friends and family, for that matter.
But the truth is, every customer we take on becomes part of the Auric family. The last thing we want is to jeopardize a relationship. We’re not perfect, but you can see from our reviews that we make it right even if we miss the mark the first time. We’re never sloppy in our work, but we take extra good care of referrals, because you’ve placed your trust in us to get it done right.
Don’t “surprise refer” anybody.
It’s very awkward for us to have this conversation:
“Hi, this is Danny with Auric Energy. Jim shared your info with me and said you’re curious about solar power, is that right?”
“He did, did he? Then he’s playing a pretty dirty trick on you and me. I have no interest whatsoever. *click*”
(Yes, that actually happened. We’re pretty good at our jobs, if we do say so ourselves, but it’s way better for everyone if we’re pointed to interested parties who are expecting us.)

Do you live in an HOA? No problem – our energy experts excel at presentations. We’ll come prepared to blow the committee away.
